Issues with network lag

Hi,
Experiencing a lot of gameplay lag that causes me to not hear players mic’s and has the “speed up” effect after a few seconds where everyone in the world is motionless then there is a burst of everyone doing everything at once. Has made the game almost unplayable which is a shame, having no network issues with 17 ms, I’m seeing spikes in the output log with most of the latency issues relating to marking and deleting objects. The link for my log is https://pastebin.com/eR38Pnk6. Let me know what you guys think.
Best,
Jack

It sounds like you are having spikes of packet loss or network latency. Are you on Wifi or ethernet?

Looking at your log, I see latency of 17ms, but then also spikes of 617ms, 83ms, 233ms, etc, which would seem to indicate that’s what’s going on.

If you want you can open up a Command Prompt and run:

ping -t game-direct.orbusvr.com

And see what’s going on there. Leave it running for 5 or 10 minutes and see if there are any timeouts or any spikes of higher latency.

I am on wifi, however have not had a spike for the past 8 minutes sitting around 17-24. Could the install be corrupted?

I don’t think that’s likely. I would leave the ping running and just play the game, and then if you see the issue occur look at the ping window and see if you see a commensurate packet loss or spike there as well. If not let me know.

However, if you have access to a long ethernet cable and can test playing with that it would be my recommendation to do so, as we’ve had several people with this issue who had it caused by their Wifi.

Once I ran the program I had almost a weird timed spike of 3000 latency every 5 seconds on the dot very confused. https://pastebin.com/KXKKsr90 drops in almost a perfect pattern from when launched the program and I haven’t logged in yet.

Hmmm…you haven’t even logged in yet? As in you’re at the character select screen? And it stops when you close the program?

I dunno, my only guess is that there’s something going on with your Wifi where if a certain amount of bandwidth is being used it it causing issues.

That said, the character select screen uses literally no bandwidth at all so I’m not sure.

Or do you have any kind of firewall or antivirus program that might be kicking in?

As I said if you have access to a long ethernet cable and can test it with that just to see what happens that would be super useful.

Looking online for answers apparently there is a bug with the hardware and not your game! Lag spike started when I started steam vr by itself. Thanks for helping me realize that though! Cheers,
Jack

You’re welcome! Thanks for letting me know what it was so I don’t obsess about it
