I agree. I really hope this gets changed sooner than later. I just hope whatever changes get made don’t make our DPS take a nosedive… In any case, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with this.
Perhaps damage should be somewhat based on distance, and size of the creature being attacked. If you’re only 1m away, making it extremely easy to spam arrows, then damage should be reduced overall. This would encourage you to keep a decent distance away, and require more precision in aiming. If you’re a great shot, it would still allow you to spam arrows, but I consider that along the same line of mages multicasting spells. The downfall to this would be soloing though, but I guess it would encourage the use of traps more often.
I do like this idea. I’m ok with spamming arrows if you can do it accurately at a distance, but when it’s in your face it looses the charm mighty fast. Your going to get your bow smashed fighting like that!
(And my arms start hurting if I’m forced to continue for more then 5 min pumping arrows from my hip)
I’d like to be able to switch to a knife or something for the close combat so I can stop the spam motion.
Also having the option to disable the offset would be nice.
my vote would be to change it so it takes 1 sec between attacks for the arrow to reach full damage and incrementally smaller if shot sooner.
this would allow the ranger to actually aim and shoot each arrow, instead of trying to hold your bow arm perfectly still while you other arm rapidly succumbs to elbow strain… while still letting you rapid fire if that is what you prefer, or to just quickly finish off a bit of hp left on a mob,
basicly it would be sort of a basic arrow internal timer, in which you would only be losing dps if you waited to fire longer than 1 sec… i dont mind the way it works currently after developing some skill at it, but i do feel in a long raid run your arm will be wrecked after, 30 mins of firing 3 arrows per second
I also don´t like the arrow spamming. The rewarding thing for me too is (or rather would be if I had the skill in orbus) to hit long shots and tackle enemies from a distance! Spamming feels unrealistic and non-rewarding
However, after a short search I found that arrow spamming is at least not thaaat unrealistic…
There is at least this one guy, Lars Andersen (search on YT), who can shoot ten arrows in 4,9 seconds and many other crazy things!
Still…I don´t think he could do that for a minute or longer and maybe he would also aggree that this is not a lot of fun
Archery in such a game would also remind me more of genteel creatures like elves
For close combat maybe Legolas could be mimicked using an arrow like a piercing weapon in the non-bow hand when enemies get too close
But besides the maybe too complicated mechanics that would be also not too realistic …maybe a method to stun enemies though…?
