2 Headsets, 1 PC

Hi,

I don’t know if this is something you can actually control within the game, but I have an issue and I am sure I am not the only one who would want to do this, being an MMO. I have a Vive and a Windows Mixed Reality headset, but we have only 1 gaming computer good enough to run VR.

I know the natural solution with MMO’s is usually to have 2 separate computers, but since VR is kind of pricey, I was curious if there is a way to tell Steam which headset the logged in account is using so Steam VR can work with 2 headsets on 1 PC? Kind of like a Co-op situation but in this case you are just setting the headset to the Orbus account instance?

We have 2 copies of the game, and when trying this, we can get the game to load 2x on the monitor, but it’ll try to put both SteamVR instances on the same headset (we tried things like Sandboxie but this does not help the issue). This is with 2 completely separate Steam accounts each with a copy of the game.

So what you get is a “double vision” effect and one controller controls both accounts.

People have got the Rift and the Vive to work together (not sure about this game) because Rift, I assume, has it’s own Occulus Home loader. I don’t have a Rift to try it though.

OK, it does sound possible, but it doesn’t sound easy or cheap.

First, you’ll need multiple video cards. If that’s not enough of a deal breaker…

You’ll need a CPU that can support splitting up the cores among multiple copies of Windows. That’s because…

You’ll need to run multiple OS environments, each on its own VM. It sounds like Unraid Server Pro works as the host to the VMs. This will allow you to run multiple copies of Windows, each with their own systems and drivers, each accessing their own, specified video card.

I learned all this from PCWorld below:
