After the past few weeks of writing and raiding, @Crash and I are happy to announce the release of a new semi-comprehensive wiki we have entitled Orbus Free Press. It contains a variety of information on classes, skills, a full bestiary, and much more sourced from a variety of community discords and informational resources as well as our own experiences. It is primarily divided into two sections: a beginner section for various topics that is intentionally devoid of significant spoilers, and an advanced guides section that digs into some of the deeper spoilers (which may not all be marked) for most everything but the main storyline. We invite everyone to check it out now at: Orbus Free Press Homepage
We would be happy to receive comments on the existing content and invite anyone who would like to become an editor and add or manage content to check out the editing rules and either message us or post on the talk page linked there. To keep things under control, we’ll give out editor privileges by request only at first and relatively soon make it freely open to edit. Editing Rules - Become an editor
A few thanks are due for people who originally provided portions of a variety of the content you’ll find on the site through other sources:
Super Friends for their ongoing wiki efforts
Eternal Knights for the dyes tracker and fact checking
Rickness and Decoy for various fishing info and infographics
Constantine and Grekb for the orbusmmo wiki, from which many pictures came
And The Crystal Gems for various contributions from the very beginning
A special thanks to the devs for their continued support of community projects and the depth of content that has led us to make this wiki.
We sincerely hope this will be an ongoing useful resource for everyone out there and look forward to seeing where the community might take this project.
EDIT: Just to clarify, while this was produced by members of Eternal Knights for the community, it is neither officially associated with nor intended to be solely moderated by EK. If you would please direct general questions/comments/concerns about the wiki contents to myself or Crash, not EK leadership we’d appreciate it. Thanks!
Thanks for all the hard work and effort that went into making a comprehensive orbus guide, and im sure this will be helpful to many of us. Im wondering if you got the ok for this from the dev team, if I remember correctly a wiki was created early on in the orbus beta and was taken down because Riley wanted the community to experience everything first hand. however after a number of months of the game being out, they might be a bit more lax on the subject.
Neat resource. As long as we are posting places that aggregate data for collaboration, go ahead and check out the SuperFriends wiki at https://orbus.online. Glad to see this kind of coordination and collaboration from a robust community!
It’s probably around 30%-40% redundant, sure, but the idea was to have an unaffiliated community resource that is as concise and as fact-based as possible. Content from a variety of existing wikis and discord servers was merged to be significantly more overarching than the SF wiki. The SF wiki is certainly informative but decidedly not the direction we wanted to go.
I think it’s neat and you can tell you put a lot of work into it. A few minor things I noticed right away.
The main menu doesn’t work with my cell phone in portrait mode. I think you just have to play with the scaling settings for mobile.
The basic artificing runesets seen to be missing. I know the SF wiki has a few of those already available. This may be a bug though because it’s listed almost as if it should show up.
I think the icon menu system is nice but I think it’s a little harder to find what you need than a simple list format. However this is purely just personal preference.
Also the advanced section being hidden makes it combersome to use if you are looking at that section. If you go to a page and go back you have to keep unhiding that section. A wiki by definition will have some spoilers and that tangle just shows links to other pages with no direct spoilers
First off, we’ve got a decent work in progress list still at: http://orbusfreepress.org/index.php/Talk:Main_Page. There’s a number of things we want add or refine but haven’t had time to polish up and you hit a few of them.
We realized the mobile view was pretty rough just before releasing and didn’t have time to sort that out but its a work in progress.
We didn’t get around to artificing tilesets yet, as there’s some conflicting information and its something that usually isn’t a one-set-fits-all thing.
Icons were added to spice up the homepage rather than just having a block of tabulated text, but the end goals is something hybrid like https://starbounder.org/Starbound_Wiki
Yeah, the advanced toggle is a relic from when we first made it and had no spoiler tags anywhere. I’ll probably remove it now.
