So what is that small concussive pop sometimes when I cast a spell?

Spells runes have varying levels of correctness. If you draw a rune that is “close enough” you will be rewarded with the spell animation, however if you draw a rune very accurately you will receive an additional animation and popping noise to let you know you really nailed that one. In addition to that more accurately drawn runes are rewarded with a slight damage increase.
