^ Watch this one (35 seconds uncut + just a loop of the success casts of those 35 secs)
Will post a “real” chain cast video later, just here so that people don’t keep trying “R” and instead they do “R” with the backwards-hook.
Edit: Feel free to share discoveries/tips that helped you cast Affliction 2 via the “R” shape.
Edit2: About the same learning curve as Frost 3
I have been able to chain cast, not extensively yet. I had to stop playing for a week or so to let my arm rest - from working on this spell! So I’m actually quite rusty and still need to get practice in. Nonetheless, I thought I’d share.
It’s harder than it looks, you can cast affliction 1 or fireball 2 quite easily. Frost 2 and Decurse can also be cast with similar looking “R” casts. However, you will mostly encounter chain casting affliction 1’s during practice, which is wrong. I’ll be making a video of affliction 1 casts so that they can be compared.
In short, an important part of this spell is making a “pointy downward angled” “circle” at the top, such that the R is “looking down” as well as being a little pointy but with a rounded point. All the other characteristics are important too, but in general this is what makes Affliction 2 vs Affliction 1.
If you are casting frost, your circle at the top isn’t wide enough.
if you are casting fireball, you circle at the top may not be round enough or you are connecting at the center instead of departing early to create the leg.
Nice find! I got affliction 2 a few times while casting fireball 2 and never understood why, i guess i wasn’t completing the B so it looked like an R lol
The R seems to cast a random spell. Wooly figured that out a few months back. If you can get Affliction 2 alone without anything else that would be/is awesome.
It’s not random, I described the 4 spells that an R can cast and there are differences between them. The point of me posting the video was to give a visual towards which R casts Affliction 2, many mages have accidentally cast Affliction 2 while trying to fireball with a tired arm but to my knowledge nobody has tried to pursue it.
Fireball & Frost 2 are very distinguishable from Affliction 2 once you sort of understand what you need to do. Fireball 2 may happen time to time, but it’s usually because you aren’t drawing the top wide enough. What causes frost 2 to happen is the “P”. Even a “P” with a stubby leg will recognize as Frost 2. a “P” with a long leg is usually Fireball 2. There are probably like 6 ways to cast Fireball 2 lol (not counting, but roughly 4 or 6).
Frost 2 stops completely & decurse is extremely rare and only appears really during your first attempts.
Affliction 1 however, you can very easily mis-cast it as Affliction 2. Affliction 1 kind of covers “the broad area” of what Affliction 2 looks like. If you over-do it, or under do it, you’ll get Affliction 1. Which is why I am going to make an affliction 1 video so that the small differences can be picked out. You can end up easily chain casting Affliction 1 a hundred times. Try to not see Affliction 1 as a success, but a failure, and focus on what Affliction 2 looks like. Affliction 2 is actually closer to Fireball 2 than Affliction 1, in my experiences. Sort of a baby between the two R versions of Affliction 1 & FireBall2
Edit: I will say the challenge rating for this is just underneath Frost 3. Probably should add that to the main post.
Edit2: It’s a bit of speculation, but basically you are making a spell that passes both affliction 1 and 2. Either are at an “acceptable” limit. The goal is to make affliction 1 less acceptable than affliction 2, so that it is the preferred cast. Similarly, making affliction 2 as preferable as possible & meeting the minimum requirements.
I’m telling you. Wooly’s “Random Casting method” is what he called it months back. The thing is even in your video it just looks like you spliced hours of footage where the affliction 2 was the successful cast it seems like. Wooly’s got his PhD in computer science and was explaining something about how the casting works off of algorithms or Mathematics or something of that nature, plus that spell is really close to a lot of the othe spells and has a lot of the same angles and straight lines. So it doesn’t really know what spell your attempting to cast. But if you can continuously get that one spell to cast, I will definitely adopt your method today because it’s really awesome.
1] Everyone knows about the “random” cast, it happens naturally when you are tired and casting fireball 2. Sloppy casts can cause an “R” shape and you’ll see 1 of the 4 spells. This is what tipped me off to affliction 2.
2] I don’t know who Wooly is never have I seen video of this
3] It’s NOT random, at all. I’ve been able to cast it at best about 6x within a minute(including a triple back to back cast). I spliced random hours of footage that I had to see what the image looed like. I chose to release notes in case people wanted to see it & perhaps provide useful feedback prior to me mastering it. I can easily choose to cast (using an “R”) frost 2, fireball 2, affliction 1, and I’ve accidentally casted decurse. I can intentionally cast affliction 2, but yes I suck at it because it’s a very precise cast with overlap sharing with affliction 1.
4] I’m a Computer Scientist, and you don’t need to be one to understand the algorithm that determines a success/fail cast… it’s essentially what allows for shortcuts to be made.
Choose to believe that the spell is random if you want, I don’t know how to make it more clear beyond saying twice that “it’s not random & I can choose which spell to cast using an R”. The footage is there & I put it up as a community resource. It’s a difficult cast with a high learning curve. I would argue the opposite is true, there is no random cast. What you draw is put into the algorithm and it spits out an answer based on the input… randomness simply makes no sense in the context of shape recognition lol. It’s not impossible, but I doubt this is how they set up their code. It’d be more like 51% confident this is affliction 2 and 49% confident it is affliction 1, therefore cast affliction 2. Perhaps if it reaches a true tie(really the “else” case), 50% vs 50% then you might see a fail, a random between the tied spells, or it goes down some priority list and picks the first one that was seen in the tie.
Not sure what you mean buddy. Called him a friend, and said he was the main man for figuring that stuff out. Not sure how more positive you could be in the situation. If you could explain to me what was said that was against the policies or whatever else you’re speaking of?
I was just going to reply the same thing. Me and my wife fight about the same thing all the time because a text Message we send can be taken entirely different then if someone was to say it in person. First of all, it came across bad because I called him buddy. So that probably sounded condescending, but if you read my previous post , The first one I found was from February 20 with somebody who help me in a situation, I called him buddy as well, I do that when I speak in real life too all the time, it’s just a habit I have. I wasn’t attempting to be mean though. Well most of the time I spent on the game is usually helping out other players especially new ones around high step. If you knew me in the game you know I don’t have a mean bone in my body. My characters name is Nitro. Hell I help level low guys yesterday for probably three or four hours by the little rats in the starting area. I didn’t mean to take away from his video. I was just trying to give a little credit to Wooly as well. No he did not make a video of it, he’s an older guy and works a lot. But in his defense he had shown decoy and decoy said he was going to add it to his repertoire and maybe make a video of it.
If you draw the “R” without focusing, and just draw it sloppily, then you can end up with a “random” spell. When I get really lazy/tired, I actually do this. However there is a method to the madness, none of it is actually random - there are just a lot of shared similarities. By not paying attention to your cast, you can cross over between the spells. By focusing, you can single out a particular spell.
Frost 2 - leg doesn’t exist or a “P”, or the leg is stubby, or more angled to the left (it registers as a “P” but not a “B”.
Fireball 2 - Various scenarios to explain… there are a LOT of ways to draw fireball 2. However in general, the top is medium length & rounded and the leg needs to go sharply bottom right. You need to get “close” to the left line. You don’t actually have to touch it. However, drawing a “B” is more natural for fireball anyways, as it returns you to the starting point of the next cast.
Affliction 1 - Top has to be very wide, the angle for the top must be aiming downward. Similar to fireball, can choose to connect at the center or you can leave early with a long leg.
Affliction 2 - Similar to Affliction 1, still not 100% all the qualities that can make it cast. Whenever I channel “Fat, Round, Point(a little), “down”(aiming down)” with a long leg, I can get it to cast. I do not think you can connect at the center, but you should get sort of close. However, I’ve begun to suspect that the proportion of the size of the R is crucial. The leg is also just a little longer than the top part. The top part should not get too close to where the top right of the “bowtie” would be on a regular Affliction 2 cast, and must turn away early. To be continued.
Chain cast just for you. Will post a “real” chain cast video later, just here so that people don’t keep trying “R” and instead they do “R” with the backwards-hook.
