Rune system for current use is alright, but I’d personally love to see stuff like actual language developments.
Kind of like how level 3 fireball works off of the level 2, and incrementally more stuff gets added on. But learning spellcasting as a language rather than a memorization sheet.
Stuff like “adding a circle around the rune casting will increase the length of time for effect” or “crossing it out with an x reverses the effect of spell” (shield spell is weakening, affliction is a healing dot, fireball turns into a dot? Frost can add haste?)
Language development for runecasting and learning by experimentation like “What if I inverted affliction?” “If I add a lengthening effect on my inverted fireball, and then frosted them and added an affliction dot…” These are just thoughts I’ve been accumulating and wondering if anyone else had either something similar or a more fleshed out version. I really like this idea.
This sounds awesome! But maybe instead of adding these enhancements to the existing symbols (I can’t imagine the headache behind recognizing every iteration!) we could instead add a series of Enhancement symbols that you would draw out one at a time before the main spell symbol (Same way the teleport mechanic works by having the initial start symbol then the varying town symbol combinations). This way it’s easier to add new effects going forward and the player would know they drew each symbol correctly instead of having to figure out which part of the whole drawing got botched.
Ya know, there’s a whole other hand not being used by the runemage. Maybe they should consider giving the offhand something to do with spell modifiers.
Would be pretty awesome to be able to hold a spell in my left hand for later use. Either as a way to double down my initial pull damage or keep an emergency polymorph spell for when it hits the fan
Similar to what Nathan said: instead of shooting the spell out of the wand after you cast a spell have it put to your other hand to shoot. While it’s in your hand you could draw another spell that might modify the spell in your left hand or leave a time floating so you can cast after you shoot. This could make tittering easier because you won’t have to aim with your wand so you can shoot and keep casting.
That’s actually pretty brilliant. You could cast polymorph, hold it in your offhand, then go back to casting Dps spells with the wand, then shoot the polymorph from the offhand when its needed. It would add quite a bit of combat strategy to the class.
Off-hand spell storage would be great but should be limited to short range spells. The wand being the focus of magic has the range. So, lance/push/ray and the like would be available for storage. This would allow for current and future combos. Also giving the mage more utility when de/buffing spells are added later.
