Mob Reset / Leash Range

Is there a set leash / reset range to prevent indefinitely kiting mobs? If so, what is it? As a ranger, it feels all over the place sometimes. While grinding in the Lucian Plateau, I found myself hitting mobs in the same general area (while standing in one spot), and I was finding that some of them would run to me and immediately reset while others would not. I assumed I was on the edge of whatever the range was.

What are peoples thoughts on the current range?

For a ranger, it feels too small and maybe should be extended while damage is being done. Currently, it’s very frustrating to either be penalized by needing to let mobs stay close to me and suffer the damage decrease or utilize my trap to keep my distance but the mob resets right before I kill them.

So the leash can happen for two reasons. One is if the mob can’t reach you in terms of pathfinding. That’s not normally a problem but just in case if you are standing like right next to a tree for example where you are practically “inside” of it, or are standing across a body of water the mob can’t path, etc., then it will just reset immediately to prevent exploits.

Then the other is the distance leashing. For most mobs it’s set to 60 meters+, which is pretty far in-game. If we had it longer than that I think it would just be too easy for ranged players to not even git hit at all before the mob reached them.

I’m curious though; isn’t that how a lot of ranged classes in MMOs work? Typically a skilled ranged player should be able to keep distance and get a kill without being hit by melee enemies, and the trade off is general “squishyness”.

Also, is there a set of info that I could provide to document / report pathing issues (or do you already have the info you need)? in the plains where there are lots of trees, I can be somewhere in the mid distance range and they will path not just around the nearest tree, but very far down to the point where they reset themselves.

Yeah I’m somewhat aware of what’s going on with the pathing, you can always just put the info here in this thread or a new one specifically for that purpose if you think there is something weird going on in a particular area and we’ll take a look!

I’ve really only noticed the pathing gets a little goofy. One thing I will say is having an option as a ranger to stun/trap a flying/floating enemy would be nice.

You can always just run in circles, that would get rid of the distance leash
