My Orbus Experience
Preborn
Very short lived but I did play preborn, my favorite activities back then were fishing just outside of highsteppe on the docks where I met multiple people and just had fun making conversation. Some names I still somehow remember even though its been nearly 6 or 7 years now are Promiedota and Cobra/CoBruh? Its been a minute so not 100% sure of names now but something along those lines.
Early Beginnings
My humble beginnings were as a warrior and they were HUMBLE, I remember attempting my first dungeon crypt for the quest and failing horribly, rocking small shield and doing wound getting hit by every earth blast and being one shot. This is when I met some of my earliest and first friends and they were IcyPanda, KingMe, OsciPlaski, Sqraw and IceCreeper. They all helped me level and do dungeons, I remember my first guild being Daalgard and joining around level 25 as a warrior and I had IcyPanda teach me how to tank at the extreme bare bones level. What an amazing time that is to remember going from literal bottom of the barrel making dungeon queues unclearable and then being able to complete them. After that they helped me get my +1 and +2 gear. I then began my social arc of meeting people since that is naturally the next step in end game, firstly I met Z&H a guild lead by KingMe where I met more close friends such as StoneTheOne. Kosher Cowboys was the next guild I met which during the time I was playing I think the biggest guild in the game? 200-ish people I think with 2-3 guilds just because they were at the cap. I firstly tried applying and actually got denied then because they were full lol (my later guildmates would never let me live that down). I did do things with them though for instance my first ever guild city raid which was awesome!! I played bard and basically did nothing the whole time except die a lot again lol. It did pay off though, Iād finally met some end game people that randomly took me on a 13 crypt that night after doing I think a 7 as my highest beforehand. They were Vodka and Whiski and some other then Kosher Cowboys. Iām 99% sure we broke it and it was also 99% my fault but Iād finally gotten some +5 gear!! It was a pretty awesome feeling to finally get some endgame gear and feel like I was improving even though I was still horrible. I then did what all MMO players do eventually and downloaded a parser. I then also found out why small shield warrior sucked lol.I then began listening to meta and found out mage was basically doubling every other classes max potential with mage still having potential to get better. I decided to go grab a wand and casted one frost two and gave up, (yes I gave up for a whole week because of how frustrating mage was) but eventually came back to it after leveling it to 20 something and took it seriously. I first learned P for frost 2 and did that for a while then moved onto D method and slowly got better with it when one day accidentally I did the thing that would solidify my place in orbus history and community. I drew a funny looking circle. I actually still have the picture from the day I created it. (from March 1st 2020)!
After this was basically the next era of my adventure and jumpstarted my orbus ācareerā.
Becoming him
To become him one must know him, understand him. I was not him nor was I on the path to become him. After creating pretzel my mage skills were basically jump started from doing 30k dps to around 50-60k in just a week or so which for spring 2020 50k was seen as above average. I then realized wait I might be cooking and began sharing pretzel around, my reputation then was me being bad and carried for gear and they were right but this was different and only really one person gave me the acknowledgement Iād been looking for, the good ol Mishka. He was the first to tell me I was really onto something and told me to get better and prove it was as good as Iād told everyone it was. I did just that, I began practicing and making the method better and after a while decided it was time to join an endgame guild, Elysium.
Joining Elysium was no easy task for a newcomer, the process was difficult because you had to perform both mechanically and damage wise. Meaning I SUCKED lmao, I couldnāt do mechanics to save my life but my dps was already outperforming some in the guild doing 70k (this would eventually lead to my last name boostedboi because I could do dps but no mechanics so I was boosted). I luckily was trialed on an airship 8 and airships mechanics were some of the easier ones especially for dps so I was able to do dps and with that was able to join the guild skipping the recruit process altogether (recruit was basically we see potential just need to iron it out). I also then met everyone, Taki, Loganator, Hammy, Rich, Oooo, Meb, Promiedota, Traffic, Gingy, Null, Sqraw, OsciPlaski and Mishka ( I know Iāve already mentioned the last three but this is when I really met them). From then on I only got better and people either realized I was cooking or were in denial, someone that really helped me take the next step in getting better was potato. Potato helped me make a tileset that worked for fireball only because before then they were all fire/frost tiles, he was also my biggest competitor. We ran 15ās basically daily with us comparing dps trying to get better and eventually as time went on we both only got better. We did this for around 3 months I believe when we finally were scraping 100k+ dps averagely and then 110k, and then 115k, then 120k and finally after so much practice time and effort 130k. Hitting 120k was already the record back then but I knew I could do better and so the next night I slapped 130k on the mutated rat forcing my friends to do afflictions/debuffing to scrape out as much dps as possible but also making them purposefully do less damage so it wouldnāt die too quickly (back then the rules were 60+ seconds on any boss that didnāt have amplifications (ancient temple first boss)). I then was finally him, I held the record for 1 or 2 years when I was then outdone by I believe Katsui (shoutout katsui guys a monster)
Elysium Shenanigans
This is going to overlap with the last paragraph but instead of focusing on me its about my experiences with the guild and its guild mates
Elysium was not a perfect guild and I know literally EVERYONE knows that and it was never a secret but it was my home and I love every one of my guildies. To begin with I first met Sqraw and OsciPlaski back when I was still a warrior and these guys showed me just how terrible I was lol, Osci was the first one to parse me on small shield warrior and really put it into picture how bad I was then and Sqraw was basically my hypeman that just was fun to be around but knew what I could do to get better and was just generally helpful. Nextly I met Mebg who at first I was so confused about, I knew he was super good from what Osci had told me but he definitely didnāt act like it whenever I was around him, he always wanted to have fun and that usually entailed someone being gaslit or made fun of, one of those unfortunate people was me lol I remember at a world boss event Meb screaming as loud as he could āBUCKY CANT DO THE MACARENAā and I remember just everyone turning staring and laughing, amazing moment I could never forget that also made me want to join Elysium because that was my type of fun too. Of course we then had what I liked to call the adults, Taki, Hammy and Mishka they basically babysat for the guild to make sure we didnāt do too much stupid stuff and also organized events for the guild and community. Oooo and Gingy were both newer members that joined either right before I did or just after and we all played together heavily being the new guys in town and wanting to grind. Soon enough we also got some new members one of them being Logariffic who was basically starting right as Iād become average at the endgame level, I remember running a sewer 10 with Loganator and Logariffic getting Logariffic his first +4 gear, it reminded me a lot of when Vodka and Whiski had helped me in past. Them two would eventually months later be apart of the speedrunning group with Me, Rich, Logariffic, Loganator and Traffic. This group was some of the most fun Iāve ever had in a game we ran basically daily trying to break shard records and we were very successful basically breaking all of the records within a week and then breaking them even further and further. Doing some of the first sub 10 minute shard runs on broken halls, abandoned mines, ancient temple and I think sewers. Prom and Null were the local discord people that rarely touched the game anymore but I still got to know both of them very well just not through orbus.
This was a lot of my memories from 2020 and honestly there was so much more that happened that either I canāt remember or it is its own story altogether. If anyone remembers anything in similar times or with similar people Iād love for you to share, Iāll also try to add more of things I remember as I remember them over time. I also plan to do after 2020 because there was a whole different era of orbus I experienced too with tons of different and alike faces.
I really hope this resonates with names mentioned above or helps remember a situation just like this, it made a difference in my experience and was a big moment in time for me and hopefully others!
