OrbusVR Sunset Announcement

We wanted to start off by thanking the community. Since the start of development in 2016, to our launch into Early Access of OrbusVR in December of 2017 all the way through this last year, we have always been blessed with the best community. This community has supported us through the last 8 years and allowed us to create the game and social environment that we are proud of. For that and everything you all have done for us, we are forever grateful.

With that said, it saddens us to announce that on February 10th 2025, we will be stopping sales on all platforms, with the server officially going offline on April 6th 2025. While we as a company have tried to sustain the game as long as possible, we have made the difficult decision to take this next and final step.

In the coming months leading to the server shutdown, we will be planning a few farewell events, including increased drop rates on legendaries, unlocking the DLC for all players that may not have experienced it yet, and hosting the last official Mage Tournament in-game. While we are truly sad to say goodbye to this game, we want to celebrate the fun, friends, and memories that have been experienced in our games’ long history. We plan on doing an end of game wrapup, sharing stats like total hours played, monsters killed, etc., in the coming months.

While there are still many things we would like to highlight like standout moments we have had from playing and interacting with the community, to favorite places, or even some of the lesser known lore of the game, this will not be the last post.

We are still hopeful this market gets the love and attention it deserves in the future, and wish all future developers the greatest of success in reaching their goals! We hope this game has given you more friends and memories than one can count. We are so proud of the work we have all put into this game, along with being part of pioneering the future of VR in our small way.

Thank you for making every second of this journey worth it,

OrbusVR Development Team

EDIT: Just wanted to post a quick update today as I took time away from the computer after the announcement yesterday. This game has been a huge part of my life the last 8 years and it was even more difficult than I thought it would be. First, I want to truly thank you for sharing your memories of what Orbus has meant to you all through the years. I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of kindness from past and present players, hearing about the deep impact Orbus had, along with the offered support of everyone. We always strived to keep the servers online as long as possible and considered our options moving forward, but even with taking no salaries for over a year and running at a loss most months, the game is not sustainable anymore. While it means more than you know to me that so many players have offered to support the game further, I want to encourage you to take that support and help other developers creating the newest generation of VRMMO’s. Speaking as one of those developers from 8 years ago, you would not believe the amount of joy it brings to know that other people believed in our ideas, and wanted to see what we could create. So again, thank you to all those who have reached out, it makes me so proud to be a part of this community.

PS: We will have more information on the specific dates and times for the Farewell events to post next week. I hope everyone will join us in celebrating the game that has given us all so much and send Orbus off with a bang.

There’s no patreon or fundraiser you could hold to gather funds? The community is still here. We’re willing to pitch in.

The game has good bones. Are you willing to pass on or sell the code base?

Sad to see, has great memories here.
I have to ask - can we at least run the game locally still? Single player mode or a way to run a local server? Seeing it be lost forever would be really sad.

Thank you for the memories and the friends made along the way. From fishing, to practicing my spells. From preborn to reborn. Elongata to Treesus.

I’ll be sure to make an appearance before the servers close. Would be cool to see the mage tourney as a spectator this time.

I still remember when I had an Oculus Go and was enjoying the likes of TheWell. I was looking for something more and watched YouTube videos about Orbus. I fell in love with the game so much so it was the main reason that I purchased an original Quest. Orbus reborn was the first paid game that I purchased and over the years and all the time I spent playing it more than paid me back for the purchase price.

I then got a Quest 2 and signed up for the beta program to allow quest users to see other players mounts and tools.

I am going to have to find something else to play. As I enjoy raids, giving out free dragons and searching for my maps etc.

Its a sad post …

will the files for the game be saved so that it could potentially be brought back someday?

If possible, please consider your community that you’ve grown. We love the game and what it’s done for us. We’re willing to give back how we can.

As you know there’s several programming wizards in the community. There are people willing to throw money. There are people wanting to play the game. Could you release the files? Let modders and programmers do their thing and open unofficial servers that the community would provide for?

You created something truly special and we don’t want to see that leave.

This game has paved the way for some of the most meaningful relationships I’ve had. I remember being so excited to come home from school and play Orbus back in preborn, not only because of the game itself, but because of the community. Even as a mute player, communicating almost solely through in-game messaging, I found a community I loved - and it loved me back. I am eternally grateful for the friends and memories I’ve made. I was there for the first send-off, I’ll be there for the last. The old dog deserves to rest now. <3

You know, I’m not the only one who enjoyed the music of Orbus. Could you, as one last fundraising effort, release the soundtrack as paid DLC? I’d happily put down $10-20 to get downloadable copies of the soundtrack. Keep the nostalgia alive, you know?

I would actually really enjoy this as well.

Preborn OG Orbus was the goat. I made some awesome friends and the gameplay and community kept me coming back for more. I may have moved on long ago, but I’ll never forget the memories I made with some awesome people. Everyone was so nice and helpful, and I felt I belonged. It was a home away from home for a long time, something to look forward to every day. Coming together, working together, and achieving victory together. I’ll never forget the way I felt exploring the lands for the first time, and the soundtrack and sound effects was inspiring. Such an amazing game and experience. Thank you for what you guys have done. You should be so proud. I hope it lives somewhere purely for nostalgia sake. <3

Damn… This game and it’s community definitely helped me through some low points in life. There is truly nothing like it anywhere I’ve been. While it’s sad to see orbus go, I can only hope it opens the door for more great games like it. Orbus will forever live on in the memories of those who played it. I will try to make a few appearances soon.
