Runemage mana shield

IS there anyone who knows what the mana shield does exactly? I know that it gives you some resistance but how much resistance does it give you? Does it only provide magical resistance or does it give physical as well? Or how much + armor it gives or how much damage reduction. information like that. I kind if just want to know if it’s worth using all the time in combat

I did a short test for just this question.
First, let a wolf beat me to death, no spells. Took about 17 hits on average.
Then I kept mana shield up (took at least 5 recasts, but I lost count as I was counting hits). This took 20 to 21 hits to kill me.

So, I’d say it adds about 15-20% dmg reduction against physical.
I haven’t tried a magic damage test. Nothing with magic hits me with small enough hits to get good data yet.

Functionally, it’s such a short buff timer that you likely get more out of doing damage spells instead of recasting mana shield solo.

In group (only done 1 so far), it seemed to make the difference between the tank living and dying by having it in the rotation every 4 or 5 spells, but hitting the tank with it was hard at range.

You are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you for your sacrifice in the name of science.

It does seem like a spell that’s only useful in a group with these numbers. Now if only we can start seeing dispel used more now. As a Warrior main I hate poison with a passion.

It’s very helpful to have a mage cast mana shield on the main tank in raids.

The tank ult adds +100% to armor

It boosts the Armor of the target by 25%. So you’ll get more out of casting it on a Warrior than anyone else because they have higher Armor to begin with.

Armor reduces the damage you take from all sources.

I never use it because the duration is way to short. I always hated recasting buffs.

Does that mean that armor reduces incoming magical damage as well?

Yes, Armor reduces damage from all sources.

Physical Defense is a stat which specifically negates physical non-magical sources, and Magical Defense is a separate stat which specifically negates magical sources (such as ability attacks).
