I’ve started to play Shaman in PvP to get some data and give some feedback as they are currently one of the weakest classes in PvP
In a bg after a death, the totems take about 5-10s (which feels like an eternity) to regenerate. Why are they not instant, if someone is near you in the graveyard you have to wait before you can fight. Please make this instant.
There is a lot of movement in PvP fights, it is currently very difficult to chase an opponent that is running away to kill them. Shamans also have a pretty big disadvantage against ranges classes. Shamans need to be relatively close to their targets. There needs to be a way to close the gap. Some ideas to help with this. The first idea would be to change the speed talent to give a 20% increase in speed (up from 10%) and also when a shaman throws down a totem, the orb spawns instantly. (not sure why the orbs don’t spawn instantly right now, this would also help in movement fights for PvE) This way it will be a little easier to get closer to your opponent. Another idea would be to allow totems to block player projectiles. I like this idea but not sure how you could implement it without affecting PvE.
Shamans are pretty squishy for a class that fights mid range to melee. There should be a way to mitigate some ranged damage. I’m not sure what your idea was for the defense totem, but I would suggest to have this work like a shield orb and would put a damage absorber every x seconds as long as you are in range of the totem or the totem is killed. The respawn on this totem would be similar to the lava totem.
Totemic Call talent needs to be looked at. I have yet to get this to work once. I believe the purpose of this talent was to increase movement and maneuverability. I haven’t been able to use this but depending on what you do with the shaman class, maybe for this talent after you teleport you would get a X amount of speed increase after you teleport to a totem.
This has been mentioned, but totems constantly won’t respawn on your belt. You have to change classes to get them to come back. When you change classes, you then have to wait for the totems to come back onto your belt. Please get rid of the wait for totems to spawn on your belt when changing classes.
I’ll keep messing around with the class to give more feedback on PvP.
Fair points. Since some of the other classes have certain abilities altered between overworld and the BG arena, I’d like to see how your ideas (or something similar inspired by it) pan out.
During one of the last betas, I was a runemage when asked in Highsteppe to join the queue. I did, and it was my first time delving into the Battlegrounds. Shortly after spawning in, a shaman ran at me and threw an orb, which I managed to dodge. I wasn’t in combat yet, so I ended up just running backwards, facing this shaman chasing me down, orbs just barely falling short of me, and I started laughing pretty hard. All my kudos to that shaman and his gumption and perseverance to get me. He didn’t give up either, kept chasing and trying to attack, and I was just slide locomotion running backwards on this unfamiliar map rolling with laughter, not even trying to fight/cast, while others fought around / near us. I think something else hit me eventually to put me in combat, I died before long somehow, and I imagine the rest of my BG experience was normal. That shaman deserved a high five.
For me when that happens, I’ve never had to change classes. I’ll swap the outer totems inward and then back out again, and then have the mask switch hands and back. That’s always worked for me. But yea, gotta wait for them to respawn from scratch still.
I feel like they should have a root or something for pvp and totem and orbs should spawn way faster. Maybe a barrier or shield would be great too so you could be stationary and not die right away. I commend you for pvping as a shaman, it’s a nightmare
you want to remove pvp because shamans are just generally a bad pvp class?
its to be expect that a class that is designed to stand still and be stationary is bad at pvp
The game was designed with a dynamic, active combat system with simple status effects and balanced roles. PVP can exist easily within that system.
The problems affecting Shaman in PVP are not exclusive to PVP content, as it may seem. Even the slightest movement in a boss battle affects their power level. That’s only a problem that’s going to get worse without changes, as it’s going to either limit the boss battle design to cater to immobile classes or slowly bump out Shaman as an endgame class.
Boss movement is predictable. Player movement is not. The fact you think pve and PvP are similar shows a severe lack of understanding.
Shaman isn’t the only class with drastic PvP issues. Again, almost like the game wasn’t designed with PvP in mind but was tacked on after the fact.
Shaman is definitely difficult in PvP, but it’s not impossible by any means. I’ve seen shamans get kills before, and it just comes down to how practiced you are for the class. All of the other classes in the game work very well in PvP, and shaman works just as well, just takes more practice and a more complex play style.
So you’re saying you haven’t played a Warrior or Shaman in PvP. But you’ve seen them (rarely) get kills, so they must be fine.
Shaman: Move into range of target, drop totems, target moves, orbs spawn, target is out of range, die.
Warrior: Move into rage of target and start combo, target moves, gap close, start combo, target moves, repeat til dead.
Sounds balanced and made for pvp if you’re the class fighting them maybe.
I kinda disagree a scoundrel can go in and just fire randomly and win you shouldn’t have to ‘practice’ just for the class to be playable In pvp, it should ideally be a somewhat even playing field with skill being the determining factor. My mine gripe with this thread is trying to implement changes to things like pvp when basic things like your totem dont even work half the time. They should focus on making the class work before trying to make pvp work for it.
Cool story bro. Get better at the class and you will get more kills end of story, or play a different class until shaman gets a change that will make it different
Why should someone have to work 5 times harder than another class just to play normally ? Scoundrels dont need “practice” to casually participate. Not trying to be mean or anything but your literally saying to try harder on something that is innately broken. Yes I agree shamans can pvp but the amount of work is not the same as other classes to be enjoyable .
I never said that this is the way that it should be. All I’m saying is that in the current state of the class, it is possible to get kills after practice. You shouldn’t have to practice an insane amount, but you do as it is right now. So like I said above, if you want to play shaman in PvP, either get really good at it, or switch to another class and wait for a change to the class.
