Shaman Totem Relocation

Hey everyone! We’ve been experimenting with a couple different ideas to address the issue with the shaman totem placement overlapping with tools, spawned orbs, etc. One of those ideas was to move the totems off of your belt and attach them to your off hand. As this is a pretty significant change to the class we wanted to throw the idea out there and have you all kick it around a bit.

Below is a quick video of what that idea looks like right now. Please feel free to leave any feedback!

Hmm, that’s a really interesting idea, although it does limit you to only putting one totem out with one
hand at a time. When you can use both hands you can set 2 up at the same time, so this effectively doubles the setup time. In the heat of battle you kinda want to get them all out before orbs start spawning, seems like with this you might have to make a choice of setting a totem or grabbing an orb.
If there was some way to grab multiple at the same time or a way to auto-deploy what is still on the hand that’d be pretty cool.

If something like this does happen, can you also move the HP Bar and stuff with it? I personally really hate having those right in front of my body all the time.

Honestly, once I got Reach, that pretty much solved the issues I had with grabbing the wrong thing since the orbs and totems didn’t have to be close to each other. I really feel like Reach should just be default behavior of the orbs and a different talent added in it’s spot.

I agree 100% the ‘belt’ should be changed to some other method but the arm like August said isn’t perfect when you want to be placing totems asap and duo throwing was a good method. I will try to think of another method but currently the hand option is the better of the two. Also the health moving needs to happen as well.

I like the idea, I’d want it farther back on the forearm though. Pretty much the start at the knuckles of my hand rather than the wrist be the middle of the cluster. This does prevent placing totems with the off hand or if you’re a lefty, then you have to place with your off hand.

I still feel that this is a much larger issue than just the Shaman and a global solution would be to allow us to customize where the objects exist on our body. Whether it’s the Shamans totems, the Bards Marimba, paladins Librams or just the Rangers arrow abilities. We should be able to stick them on our body where we can most effectively use them. That’s going to be different for everyone.

This is effectively synonymous with a flat MMOs customizable UI. A standard staple of the genre that I really think we need to explore.

Just to clarify, the “off hand” should be the hand that your shaman mask does not currently reside in.

I am always using both hands to deploy totems, so I am really not a fan of this solution. A big part of what makes shaman unique and fun is optimizing by utilizing both hands to do multiple things at once. Once I knew I could hide my belt items, the current placement isn’t so bad. I would rather have the current placement than this. Their positioning on your body could be better by placing them a bit higher, and perhaps split to the sides to leave room in the middle for grabbing orbs.

move the totems to your hips, and closer to the body, easy fix

So this would work like equipping a sword. The hand the totems on would be controllable? That mitigates one thing from that list at least.

Creative solution, but I also like grabbing and throwing totems down with both hands. Taking from above ideas, I’d recommend the “front” of the player being open with two totems about 30 degrees left and two totems about 30 degrees right so that we’re grabbing a little out and to the side with no real chance to accidentally grab a totem instead of the intended orb. Not sure if head gaze or body orientation would be better for that “front window” and totems 30ish degrees on either side, but I’m envisioning with headgaze. As for where to place the health bar and such… I used to always panic glance at my wand, so… maybe back or palm of hand to where the mask is equipped?

can you also move the HP Bar and stuff with it? I personally really hate having those right in front of my body all the time.

I agree with AugustLocke here

I actually forgot to address this in my feedback post on the shaman issues (please check that out) but one thing I did address was the option to raise the orbs higher off of the totems, which would probably lessen the issue here.

Chang the grabbing orbs to the triggers to prevent accidently throwing totems when we intend to throw orbs.
Easy fix
Throw totems by grip
Throw orbs by trigger

This also eases up having to grip excessively

Lol oh yeah, in my case this could be great! I’m missing a wrist strap and I’ve already thrown my controller twice trying to really Chuck these orbs :joy:
Too bad I can’t get a new strap…

Hey everyone! Just an update for you so you know we haven’t forgotten. Since the feedback on this possibility has been pretty mixed we’re going to explore other solutions. Stay tuned

Yea, that would be so much easier if it is possible

could also allow the shaman “weapon” skin to be a gauntlet on the arm with the totums

or the yugio thing
