It’s probably a bit late for this but, considering fallout 4 VR releases in such close proximity to Orbus, it might be best if Orbus was pushed back until January. I know it would make some upset but I think it would be best for the games initial impression and overall popularity. MMO releases are special events, more than other types of games due to their nature as multiplayer persistent worlds, and leave lasting impressions on people’s idea of a game.
I know this is a longshot but I’d be remiss if I didn’t say something that I think would help the game overall. I really like the developer’s design philosophy for the most part and just want to see the game succeed.
If anything it could work to our advantage by allowing the server to more evenly populate over the start of EA rather than having a flood dumped in on us.
I honestly don’t think we have anything to worry about though when it comes to other VR games releasing at the same time.
Hopefully the influx of fallout4 vr users will peak interest in other titles like orbusvr witch in itself is a much better experience than some of these other vr mini experiences that plague the market.
I honestly think we’ll be worried about getting more people to play. Focus on that this isn’t WoW and there’s no IP behind this with a fan-base. I’d be surprised if any VR game has an issue with overpopulation. Maybe a campaign to put the game out there(commercials youtubers streamers etc) will bring in more people. Or a demo that anyone can play free that puts you against a cool monster or scenario you have to solve. give people an idea of what you would be doing in the game at any random day. i feel the graphics alone are enough to push people away. It’s hard to make them understand who cares what shit looks like when you play the way you do in orbus vr. it’s minimalistic but the quality of the experiences and the time/effort it takes to do things is very much like an old school mmo. In fact I think they should market it as a revisit to the old school MMOs. and they should give sneak peaks and or hints to future content or progression that won’t be in the game until later.
I tried to get some friends into orbus vr and it didn’t work. They liked all the things i told them i was able to do and how it worked, but they didn’t want to spend time in the world because of the graphics(zero problem for me) as well as the unforgiving social atmosphere-- if someone doesn’t like you GL playing with people they know on such a small server, if no ones around GL finding people to play with. I stopped showing my friends orbus vr and i’m just focused on making friends within the game to play with now. I have a strong feeling this will have a cult following but unless word gets out or something changes we’ll be pretty lonely out there or at least lacking variety in playerbase.
Also we had been asking the devs for a hard headstart and EA date so that way we could take time off work in order to dedicate to orbus. I personally have requested Dec 13th -24th off. I guarantee there would be backlash if the devs move that day only because some other game was releasing at the same time. Orbus is only going to be heading into Early Access anyways. Not full release.
Thanks for the concern and the thoughts on the release date, but we will be sticking with the original date, as some others have pointed out players have already taken off work or planned aspects of their lives around the date, along with us being excited and ready for the general public to play the game.
