Tailoring as a Profession?

This is a tricky one because I’m not exactly sure if it would be possible because if I understand this correctly, it would probably use up a lot of memory space having a bunch of customly made clothes (maybe this could be fixed by only allowing players a certain number of templates?).

If the memory usage thing is not a problem, and tailoring could happen (assuming no other hiccups occur):

First I would think the materials necessary would be some sort of fabric, colored dyes (which could be made from alchemy), and miscellaneous trinkets/decorations from around the world (quests/drops/harvestables).

Secondly you would have a few preset types of clothes, gloves, cloaks, hats, etc. I imagine these as blank canvasses which would be placed upon mannequins. You would also need like preset patterns for these, and players could choose between the available options for their gear.

Once you have all that, players can basically color the clothes as they wish with the appropriate dyes, put some trinkets from their journeys on the gear. Like there’s a hat with a feather for musketeers right now but I would like a hat with a flower on it (for example).

For a trickier more complicated part, would these have stats? Would they just be cosmetic?

I don’t expect this to happen at all like I have suggested but I thought I would lay my thoughts out in a post.

What do you think?

I would love to see tailoring and smithing as part of the game! Crafting is one thing I love about other MMOs.

In my mind, clothes would be optional and would go over the armor. I would expect them to be mostly cosmetic with the possibility of some stat boosts (+strength, +wisdom, +luck, etc.). It would just be a way to customize your character while giving another time investment.

Plus stat boosts for armor/clothing would be a great use of those piles of crystals I have laying around…
