I’ve noticed when using the RIFT while playing the game through steam, I lose all access to steam overlay. Is there something I’m missing, a hidden button combo to get it to pop up? Normally I use the left menu button but that only brings up the in game menu.
I play the Rift through steam as well.
I haven’t tried bringing up the steam overlay, but could it be because the steam version of OrbusVR doesn’t use SteamVR, it just uses the Oculus SDK for Oculus headsets?
it uses rift’s home. with rift core 2 surely thats the perfect scenario
I think this thread is in danger of splitting into two different topics…
The OPs questions was referring to using the left menu button to bring up the steam overlay, but now it brings up the in-game menu. As far as I can recall, I’ve only ever used the the foremost of the two “projecting” buttons (that stand up from the surface ) to open the in-game menu. That said, if it was used at some point to open the steam overlay, it would most likely have been before the oculus’s SDK was supported.
Scott_g, the Steam version of Orbus would be recognized by Oculus home as a third party program and I don’t think it will bring up the home interface. I’m using rift core 2 beta and if I try to open it up, I think get taken to the generic screen that allows me to go to the store, library, my home, etc…
I’m currently out at work right now and I’m coming down with a cold so I could be mistaken.
You are right though. Once Rift Core 2 is up and running with no problems, it will be great for Rift users. I’ll most likely pick up an OH version of Orbus for that alone.
i bought on steam, i play via oculus home. i’m doubting that it’s considered a native title so if their was home items i’ll likely never recieve them.
but i launch via the home menu. hitting the right menu button opens home and i can pull out a youtube video and watch it while i hunt leechers into extinction. the left menu button is defintely the ingame menu
When you say you play via Oculus home, do you mean you open up Oculus home and Orbus is in your Oculus library?
Or do you mean that you open up Oculus home and then using the Rift core update to access your computer desktop launch steam and then launch Orbus VR from your Steam Library?
I’m assuming you mean the latter. I’ll try that when I get home assuming I don’t pass out first.
this. anything i launch once through steam is accessible from my oculus library ever after. they don’t usually have associated icons just a black title card. but will launch and run without steamVR perfectly.
i’ve only had a rift since a week after the black friday sales so maybe this is a side effect of being a completely new install. but so far the rift has been a super user friendly device.
Good to know.I’ll check it out thanks!
I’ve had my Rift since they came out well (since DK1) and I haven’t noticed that. Then again, just until recently I haven’t been doing any gaming at all. RL kinda dominated my life for most of the Orbus Alpha and Beta…
So to answer this original question, by default when you launch it via Steam if you are on Rift we use the Oculus SDK natively, as that’s preferred for most people. If you want the SteamVR overlay available, just launch SteamVR before you launch the game, and it should use SteamVR instead of the Oculus SDK. If that doesn’t work for some reason let me know.
I always do it this way, the only time I ever launch anything from Oculus home is if its an oculus title that I am required to do so, otherwise I run everything through Steam. I have even tried to disable Oculus home by setting it to admin so it wont launch, launch steam and then launch game, and while in game the right button just pulls up a black screen. Every game I play in steam the left menu button on my rift controller brings up the steam overlay, in Orbus this is the ingame menu, so that is what I am stuck at, what button brings up the steam overlay.
