Warrior Help! (hit detection)

I’m having the hardest time killing cactaurs just as you enter the desert. Around half the time my swings pass through the mob but don’t register as a hit. I’ve tried fighting up close, backing away, even almost kneeling on the floor so I’m at the same height as them. Is there a trick to these guys or are their hit boxes just that finnicky?

first thing i did was keep my graphics on low, and on the vive i’d have to point the sword/controller downward on an angle

Spyro gives sage advice. I also point down and have graphics on low. Another small tip is you may need to reposition after sword rushing (charge), generally by taking a step or two back.

Warrior hit detection has been wonky since i played in beta but i’m sure it’ll get remedied eventually once the devs have some free time. I honestly think we just need slightly longer swords all around. every model can be extended about a half a foot and i guarantee nobody would miss their swings. Half the time i’m swinging inside the monster with my hilt so where you hit the monster on your sword doesn’t really matter :stuck_out_tongue:

Can you elaborate on what you mean by pointing the controller down? Even my vertical strikes pass through the mob about half the time and they start with the controller pointed about as far down as you can get.

Yeah, I became aware that distance was a huge factor in most cases about three or four days ago. My combos have improved significantly ever since then. I’ve tried swinging from as many different distances as I could and didn’t see any noticeable difference. I think the hit boxes or hit detection may be bugged.

I view them as being challenging to master like casting spells is, and like the different spells, each mob type has their own unique hit box to learn. Of course there are more mob types than spells, and other classes have hit box challenges too, perhaps to a lesser degree though.

How I see it, warrior is the most fun class to play and if it was easy, everyone would do it.

I should clarify that it’s just this one enemy type (cactaur). I have zero issues with any other mob.

How about Leechers? I can hit Cactaurs fine by aiming lower when I swing but I literally have to sit on the ground to hit those damn Leechers. If I stand up every hit counts as a horizontal or passes through harmlessly.

no matter how many cactaur or leeches i fight, some of my swings still go right through em

I haven’t fought any leechers yet so I’m not sure. Just got done doing some more experimentation now that I’ve leveled up a few times and can survive longer. If I slow my swings down by about 50% they connect much more frequently. Try swinging slowly twice, block, then two more slow swings to finish the combo. It’s difficult to get used to since it’s counter to how I’ve been playing the past 40 hours but it seems to work better.

I do wide swings, keeping arm and wrist straight, angled downward. I can usually fit in a full wound combo, then twist to block an attack. My practice on the dummy seems to indicate that the wide swings at a good speed are registered more consistently than fast, and hit harder than short fast swings.

@Spyro, yup, even at the test dummy some swings don’t register. If I notice, I’ll redo the missed swing and still land my combo.

when i say angle it down just kind of point it to the ground on an angle haha for some reason it helped

even my runes don’t activate if i’m swinging too fast on a dummy, but with slower+less power(less dmg)my runes are almost permanent

Yeah, when fighting these smaller mobs, I effectively squat down a little so that my entire rhythm is taking place at a lower level. I have the same problem with flying mobs and found that shifting my swings so that they center on the mob is the best way to do this.

There are definitely mobs I just avoid since they’re annoying: cactaurs, leechers, even those volpes are annoying.

I will say that with the improvements that let us move after the charge, it’s helped out a lot. Still, small mobs are annoying.

Ugh… after a play session, even that only gives me about 80% hit rate. And then my shield bash wasn’t 100% either.

Small mobs are annoying.
