I believe it has been said before that expansions are coming, and that they will be paid for. this is the only reference I could find on a quick search: Anyway to help out more? - #7 by Damage_Da_Mage but I’m sure I’ve read about it in more detail somewhere, perhaps the blog

Since we aren’t charging a monthly subscription fee, we are to some degree building the cost of running the service into the price. So I don’t think we can charge much less than that and commit to the cost of running an MMO service.
