Testing the waters on these drop rates that everyone is getting. Managing to clear 2/3 bosses in the jungle dungeon in roughly 5 minutes per run, both with the ability to drop the pumpkin dye. Running it with 2 level 20 runemage’s with luck rings equipped, after 50 runs and 3,000 monsters killed there was no pumpkin dye drop. We each managed to get about 2 saltwater taffy dyes but no pumpkin.
Anyone else having a hard time getting desired dye drops? Is RNGesus real? Has LOOTcifer forsaken us?
50??? That makes me drop my efforts then, since it would need 200 to get dyes for full set, or more, and I am not at all done with it in 5mins with my musk. I ran the dungeon around 10 times (solo, wearing luck rings, doing the two “drop-bosses”), and couple more times with 2 people (which is likely not good for drop rates, not sure about that though), got 1 Saltwater Taffy, zero Pumpkin.
In general it seems like some dyes are insanely common (like Taffey, which appears all over at a very high rate and the dye is nigh worthless) and some are insanely rare (like pumpkin as described above, or crimson accent, which almost hasn’t been seen at all). I’m not sure if this is the intended range but it seems a bit extreme at the moment.
Okay, we’ll look into that and see if we need to make an adjustment there.
Just want to be clear that we definitely have not made it harder to get since the Dye Patch came out, we’ve only increased drop rates on them since then…
Not to be bold but during some other runs of the same dungeon we had one player with luck rings on and the other without. Keeping track of how many shards we each gained and runemage reagents during the runs there was no noticeable benefit with the rings on as to how much loot was obtained.
Maybe have the rings influence the dye drop rates a little more significantly than increasing their base. Just to give more reason to actually keeping the rings handy despite their weight and inability to stack.
Just feels to make sense that when you wear them that you have the intention of getting loot and dyes could be a nice incentive.
Based on a moderate sample size (several hundred at each tier of luck) for trash kills at least, I saw no significant statistical impact of going from 50 luck to 100 luck to 150 luck for drops. To be fair, it may be different on bosses, or maybe it’s a tiny effect, or maybe it’s bugged or maybe my tests were anomalous, but that’s what I found.
I would really love to have clarification on this, one and for all ( @Riley_D )… perhaps it is just psychology but I feel I got my best random drops in TM (or random drops at all) with normal rings on - which I only put if I need nothing.
Does it actually make sense to wear these rings inside dungeons, for the BOSS drops in TM (be it getting more randoms, including dyes, or better stats on armor, or better chances on perfects), or is luck a stat influencing drop rates for normal mobs, only? And also is it only for the quantity, like number and frequency of drops like reagents, armor etc. or is it actually better drops in quality like higher stats on armor?
It’s just a straight boost to your drop chance on any drop from a mob or when fishing. As for if it’s worth it or not compared to wearing another ring, I guess that’s up to the wearer, but it does boost it.
So on a boss where only one person gets the loot and the others dram, luck rings have no influence? Or does it change the percentages of the drop table rolls? Or does it make one person more likely to get the loot?
No definitely not. The base Luck is just an additional modifier on top of the base drop chance.
I’m avoiding getting into specifics here somewhat on purpose because RNG is one of those overly sensitive topics. Basically +50 Luck is going to give you a bit of an extra chance at getting loot, but it’s nowhere near going to double it.
The general idea behind those Luck rings (and the potion) is that if you’ve already got something on farm, so you don’t really need the extra boost from the stats on the ring, then it’s something you can wear to increase your chances, so it’s not a wasted slot, if that makes sense.
The way boss drops work is there is a base chance to get loot. The guaranteed drop is rolled first, and then if you don’t get a guaranteed drop (because you’re not eligible), we roll to see if you just get a natural drop. The +Luck stat influences that secondary roll.
So if you were already going to get a guaranteed drop, basically it’s not going to do anything. If you weren’t going to get a guaranteed drop, it will help your chances at getting something anyway.
The other drops off bosses (like the Dyes) are just a totally separate roll entirely that is independent of that, and the Luck stat always helps those. So even if you are getting a guaranteed equipment drop, you could get a Dye, too.
